Project Voices for Sickle Cell is a youth-led initiative by the Aghogho Sickle Cell Care Foundation designed to reduce the burden of sickle cell disease (SCD) in Nigeria through grassroots advocacy and education. The project trains young adults aged 18–35 as SCD advocates, equipping them with vital knowledge on the basics of sickle cell, public speaking, and community project management.
Once trained, these advocates reach out to secondary schools and communities to sensitize teenagers (ages 11–18) on genotype awareness, sickle cell prevention, and stigma reduction. The initiative leverages a tech-based learning platform, ensuring accessible and scalable training across Nigeria.
So far, Project Voices for Sickle Cell has successfully raised 80 youth advocates, hosted several school outreach programs, and impacted thousands of students. It is building a sustainable cycle of awareness and action toward a sickle cell-free generation.
